Jaimee Garbacik, Owner, Footnote Editorial


Jaimee Garbacik (she/they) is the owner and founder of Footnote Editorial. An editor, author, and publishing consultant, she has been privileged to edit for New York Times bestselling authors, Caldecott Honor and Emmy Award recipients, and some of the world’s foremost scientists.

Specialties include literary and commercial fiction, young adult (YA) fiction, essay collections, long-form journalism, and LGBTQIA and gender studies. At Footnote Editorial, Jaimee makes it their mission to enhance authors’ innate voices and to “never pummel sentences for sport.”

Before launching Footnote Editorial, Jaimee cut her teeth in publishing as the sole editor for The Literary Group International in New York (now merged with Folio Literary Management), handling editorial development for the agency’s more than 200 clients worldwide. Jaimee graduated cumme laude from Boston University, where she studied with renowned editor and literary critic, Sir Christopher Ricks. They hold a certificate in editing from the University of Washington, and are a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association, as well as a writing coach and manuscript consultant for Hugo House. Jaimee is also the author of Gender and Sexuality For Beginners (For Beginners, 2013), a critical examination of the sex-gender system and the evolution of gender roles, taught on curricula at more than a dozen universities. They have been a guest lecturer at numerous universities, appeared on Bumbershoot music festival’s literary stage, and presented on gender and sexuality in bookstores, libraries, music venues, and activist community centers around the country.

They are most recently the editor/curator of Ghosts of Seattle Past (Chin Music Press, 2017), an anthology and art exhibit commemorating places in Seattle lost to rapid development, and a finalist for the Washington State Book Award. Jaimee lives in New York City. Stalk their author page here.
